The Need for Daily Work
Large numbers of job seekers in the
Twin Cities have limited opportunities and inadequate support. Daily
Work serves job seekers whose needs are often not fully met by other
social service agencies. Often our clients face substantial
obstacles to employment, such as those related to housing,
transportation, language, skill deficiencies, family issues and
criminal history. Because of obstacles job seekers are often unable to take full advantage of available services; in
some cases, they are not eligible for services because they don’t
meet the criteria of the social agency. Daily Work provides
individually customized and long-term career services support to
assist job seekers obtain and retain employment.
Who We Serve
Other than expressing a willingness to
work toward financial independence, there are no qualifications to
become a client.
History Daily Work traces its roots back to
1997 when several Lutheran pastors in St. Paul and Minneapolis sought assistance from
government and social service agencies to help congregation members
who were unemployed or underemployed and struggling to make ends
meet. Daily Work was established in 2000, when it became apparent
that available services were inadequate to effectively help many job
seekers find and retain employment. Daily Work became an independent
501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2006. In 2008, Daily Work was an Award of
Hope Honoree from the White House Faith-Based and Community
Initiatives.
